How can I get a job in Puerto Rico?

How can I get a job in Puerto Rico?
I have been trying to get a job in Puerto Rico for a little while now. I plan to move there in the next few months and it would be great to have at least some leads. I speak some Spanish (6 yrs of classes) and I think I would be fluent within 6 months. My boyfriend lives there now in San Juan which is where we will live and he is puerto rican. I also have a bachelor's degree in International Relations which is political science and economics. I have applied to a lot of government jobs, but other than that I am at a loss. I only need to make about $1500 per month. Also, I have enough money to last me at least 2 months while I am there and was wondering if that will be enough time to find a job there? Even in Rincon? I don't mind working in a hotel or something. I'm just worried about the language barrier at first. Any thoughts?

To be honest, you might find some difficulty finding a job at first, don't worry about the language barrier after being surrounded by people who speak spanish 24/7 you'll deffinately catch on. As for jobs, I would visit the places you wish to apply to and have a one on one conversation with the company.

I would recommend applying at every hotel you'd be willing to travel to. Your english knowledge will help you a lot at a hotel job. Look in San Juan and Condado. Apply, apply and apply! Remember, the economy is really bad right now (very much so in Puerto Rico) and the hotels are one of the few places that might be hiring. The Gov't in PR just went through a massive lay off (of thousands) so I wouldn't count on a gov't job so much. Good Luck!

You'll find it a little difficult to get a job in the government right now since the governor is trying to reduce the quantity of goverment employees. And about the Rincon thing.... not a good idea if you are planning to live in San Juan. Try looking for work at the hotels, since your english will be a benefit.
