Working abroad while vacationing?

Working abroad while vacationing?
I'm going to Buenos Aires for the winter, 2011. I was wondering if anyone has ever worked abroad while vacationing. I want to stay for the winter, but I'm not going to "party" and lie around for three months. I obviously need to make some money to support myself for that time. I'm expecting some random job working in a clothing store. Anyone had any experience in this department? To all the clowns out there, prostitution isn't an option, nor is it an original "funny" response.

Not a country on earth that allows people there as tourists to work. Laws are very strict, and employers do not want to pay the fines incurred if they hire someone without a work visa. To get a work visa, you must find an employer to hire you and verify he cannot find a Brazilian citizen to do the job. there are several hundred dollars in fees and it takes a while. Way to complicated, unlikely for you to get for a temp. job. You can contact the nearest Brazilian consulate in the U.S. to ask about work visas.

Charlie!!!! Buenos Aires is in Argentina NO BRAZIL!!! In theory you can't work legally under a tourist visa. There are a big "under the table" employment in Argentina, you can look for some casual works too (not prostitution!) but in a Clothing store is difficult because you are exposed all the time.
3 :
yes you can work here for the winter season. Another possibility is looking for some work related with english speaking or translates...But I really don't know. The real stuff is if you know spanish pretty well to work in a clothing store, check it before you come here. Good luck and I guess you will spend a cool winter in Bs As.

What is the cheapest city in the world to live when making money in USD?

What is the cheapest city in the world to live when making money in USD?
So, I am planning on visiting another country (perhaps permanently, if we fall in love with it) while maintaining my job in the USA (I work from home) I am married and have a four year old son. My first bit of research turned up many cities, with Buenos Aires on the top of the list. It's a cosmopolitan city with lots of offer. But is there some other place that provides ever cheaper living, with no reduction is quality of life? One requirement is that I need access to high-speed internet.

Cape Town, South Africa EDIT: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_most_expensive_cities_for_expatriate_employees Or pick some from the lower part of that list.

I've done a little research on this subject as well. Buenos Aires is a good idea, and although I hear prices have gone up there drastically in the last couple of years, it still seems to be a good option. If you like South America, Asuncion, Paraguay actually ranks as a cheaper place to live than BA, although it's a much smaller and probably less cosmopolitan city than BA. There are several places in South America, or parts of Asia where you could make a go of it fairly cheaply. Try googling 'mercer world cities cost of living 2008' or something like that. I believe The Economist magazine also frequently puts out cost of living data as well.

Iloilo City Philippines. Tourist visas can be extended up to 14 months at a time. SSRV (retirement) visas can be obtained for perminant stays. Friendly english speaking people and great beaches and inland resorts. Many new shopping malls and good hospitals and doctors for quality medical care. Best value for your $ is asia.

Has anyone flown LAN Argentina from Miami to Buenos Aires? I've heard bad things about LAN.?

Has anyone flown LAN Argentina from Miami to Buenos Aires? I've heard bad things about LAN.?
Thinking of buying a ticket but not sure whether I should just pay the extra money for another airline since I've heard such terrible things. Is it really that bad? I'm flying out of DCA (Reagan) if that makes a difference...

Lan is a pretty good company, when I go home ( Milan-Italy to Buenos Aires) sometimes i fly via Madrid just to get Lan Chile to Santiago and then from there to Bs.As...
3 :
I agree with Maricris. I don't know who would possibly bad-mouth LAN. I fly them every chance I get. If you're used to flying the main U.S. airlines, you'll love LAN.... more seating space, better food, better service. I'm from Texas and live in Argentina and have taken the Miami to Bs.As. route and Miami to Santiago Chile route on LAN many times. They've always been great. As a matter of fact, many times, when you buy an American Airlines ticket, the flight is operated by LAN and vice versa. I'm always disappointed when I end up on an AA flight instead of a LAN flight. My advice is to try it, relax and enjoy the ride. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I'm not a big partier but i don't want to spend my nights sitting at home on study abroad in Buenos Aires.?
What can I do for fun in the evenings that isn't dangerous or requires a lot of money? Also, I am an active person, I love to do quiet things, I am a lot of 'bookish' interests, I guess you could say. I also love making friends but I'm more of an introvert and boliches tire me. I like to drink but I hardly ever enjoy getting trashed.

I'm not gonna lie, you're going to have a hard time in Buenos Aires if you don't party. Its a huge part of their culture to go out to bars and party so you'll definitely be missing out. However, I'm the same as you, an introvert and non-party person, so I often found myself alone exploring the city. To be honest, I never met another person in Latin America who was an introverted as me, but I'm sure you can find someone. BA is a HUGE city though so just keep your eyes and ears open and look up events on the internet to see what goes down in the evenings. And, use couchsurfing.com to meet other expats (foreigners) in the area that you can hang out with. Suerte!

Argentine Tango is a major thing down in Buenos Aires. Some places offer free or low-cost lessons - maybe even available at your university. Since you're active, and this is truly something special about BA, why not give it a try? Not only would you learn something new, you'd also be getting involved in the social life down there - all without ever having to take a drink, unless you want to. Since you're active, this might be a good fit for you. And it's cultural, and it's something that must be learned, so it may appeal to your "bookish" side as well. It'll allow you to make friends via a common activity - I really think you should give it a try.

Why money is so important in this world? Isn't money THE key to life (however preposterous this sounds)?

Why money is so important in this world? Isn't money THE key to life (however preposterous this sounds)?
Almost everyone on this planet is compelled to use money. We have no choice. I think there are only a few communities in this world (maybe a few tribes in Africa, or some people in the Brazilian jungle) who don't rely on money to survive in the world. Everyone else HAS to use money whether you like it or not. So isn't this pathetic that something as trivial as the ink constituting characters and numbers printed on a piece of paper can have such an impact on our life? If you are ill and have money, you get the treatment you need. If you don't have it, and you can't earn it, and you have no one to borrow it from, or if you can't devise a method quickly whereby money starts falling from the sky...then that's it. You're dead. Literally. The same goes with food. You can't walk into a Walmart store and tell someone at the till "I need to take some bread, milk and honey home, but I can't give you any money for this". People would look at you with incredulity. So again: no money = no food. No food = starvation. And so you die. And we can go on and on citing examples at how important money really is to sustain human life on this planet. But why is it like that? Why does money make the world go round? And why does God (if there is one) give money to some people, and withhold it from the others? Like this man who was convicted for raping a woman in England. Once he was let out of jail (temporarily), he bough himself a lottery ticket, and won millions. Whereas many homeless, starving, desperate people in London, New York, Buenos Aires or Calcutta are scanning the pavements as we speak looking for any coins, which passers-by might have lost by accident, in order to buy some food. What the hell is going on !!!?? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/3554008.stm

only because it's easier to use a representation of value instead of trading chickens and cows...
2 :
Because without money... You either wind up homeless, in prison, or dead...
3 :
The key to your question and statement is "this world". In that you are absolutely right about money. Money makes the world of today go around. Sad but true. It has replaced self-sufficiency because it offers a better guarantee than the vagaries of nature. Everyone is entitled to enjoy the benefits of the luck of the draw. Remember the movie about the slum kids in Bombay that won the lottery. In many ways, it was mirrored in life because the actual slum kids that played the parts are now set for life. Luck is nothing more than an intersection of opportunity and preparedness.

Buying a dog in Buenos Aires?

Buying a dog in Buenos Aires?
Be warned: this is a long question. i am a 14 yr old responsible rich girl. and ive always always wanted a dog. see its summer and i have like 3 months to stay in my real house in Buenos Aires. but i also live in NJ for the school yr. and life has been pretty great. Ive ALWAYS wanted a dog. animals are my life. i am currently in buenos aires and i have a big house with a garden. we r rich and have the money to buy a million dogs. i am going to buy a yorkie soon but i am having second thoughts. My dad is a diplomat and he works in buenos Aires. my mom lives here too. but after summer me and my bro go to school in new jersey then come back after the end of a school year. this is how it has been going for 2 years. my dad has like 3 more years to stay in buenos aires. so i decided to go searchign for a dog. i found one and i am going to buy it like in a week or less. the thing is i cant take it to NJ. so its gonna be here with my dad and mom. also when my dad is done with his assignment in buenos aires he and my mom will leave to another country and he really doesnt want to take the dog along because its hard to travel with a dog across continents. we all love animals in my family but i know im been unrealistic. my dad said he will get the dog when i find one. bt i know he is just sayign this to make me happy. my brother is liek what happns when we go? are we gonnna abandon it? i am cryign right now. i dont know what to do! i want a dog but i cant bear to actually give it away in the end. because thatd be soo mean. id rather let another family buy the dog and keep it till its time than actually get one and neglect it. help! am so confused. i have all the necessities for a dog and im responsible..

seriously? obviously you can't bring your dog to whatever prestigious boarding school you attend so you are better off waiting until your fabulously wealthy self has graduated from high school and you have your own place.

Stay in the Zona Rosa if you go to Mexico City since it is safer. The people are friendly and accommodating in Mexico City. If you can, see the pyramids outside the city to.
